Camping in Islay Creek Campground. 4 Stars ****
Montana De Oro State Park, Los Osos, CA
California Central Coast, San Luis Obispo Country

If you are tent camping, have a small RV or trailer under 25 ft, Islay Creek Campground is a wonderful destination to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. The campground is far enough away from the beaten path but still easy enough to get to, albeit along a somewhat narrow road. But once you get there, you'll appreciate the locale and its surroundings.

The campground is relatively small which mean you'll get more privacy. The sites are space wide enough apart that you don't feel like you are on top of each other. The site are relatively short, I think max 25 ft long and width, so if you have anything bigger, you won't fit, period. My Lance 1575, which is about 20 ft tip to toe and my Ford F150, they fit side by side with plenty of room to spare.

There is no hook up at the campground so bring what you need. There are vault toilets which are clean. Some sites have more shade than others. I was in site #19 which has no shade but that is perfectly fine for me in a trailer. Furthermore, my site is perched a little bit higher than the adjacent site so it gives me a nice view out the window!

If you like hiking, Islay Creek Campground make for a nice base camp for all activities. Beside beautiful Spooner Cove right across the street, you can do an easy hike or bike along the Bluff Trail. For a more moderately challenging hike, there's Valencia Peak Trail.

Islay Creek Campground is definitely worth a revisit when I come back up to California Central Coast.
