Gas supply crisis imminent in SA

South Africa has only four months to avoid "day zero" for gas supply in 2026.
According to the Industrial Gas Users Association of Southern Africa, a looming shortage of piped gas used by local industrial users has been in the making for several years, with growing demand fast exceeding supply.
The looming gas shortfall comes after Sasol's announcement last year that it will be halting supply to downstream consumers from 2026.
For industrial gas users, this will have devastating consequences for the economy and jobs. The energy association says an urgent decision by government will be required within the coming four months if South Africa is to avoid a looming gas deficit within the next few months.
