One location in the bestiary that Fury Fossil and I made is Dragon Island. There is a wide variety of life forms on Dragon Island, and not a lot of them are friendly towards people. Case in point, the Kongamato.

The Kongamato (Kongamato mellandi) is a carnivorous pterosaur the size of a frigatebird. With a head like a Caulkicephalus and sharp needle-like teeth in its beak, this creature is one you do not want to meet in a dark alley.

Kongamatoes live in flocks up to 50 strong. Every flock is led by an alpha male. The most devious thing about a Kongamato is that they use deception to kill their prey. They do their best hunting on foggy or cloudy days.
Although Kongamatoes mainly communicate with guttural caws and croaks, when forming a plan during the hunt, they mimic the sounds of a flock of chirping birds. Then, when the plan is made, the flock goes silent. Then, the alpha male flies in full view of the target. Because Kongamatoes are the size of a frigatebird, a single individual doesn’t seem much like a threat. When the target has its full attention on the alpha male, the rest of the flock then attacks. They aim for the eyes and chest. Once they kill their prey, the pterosaurs feast. They eat until only the bones are left. That’s when they show another form of deception.

Prey on Dragon Island have learned to attack or avoid any carnivore seen near a dead individual of the same species. But not the Kongamato. Kongamatoes dump the bones of their prey into lakes or any bodies of saltwater (like the ocean). They don’t have to worry about any bones showing up. That’s because Grüber’s worms (Necrocaelia necrovoris) feed on bones and live in freshwater and saltwater.

Sounds I used: Red-winged blackbirds, ostrich chicks, Jurassic World Dimorphodon, vultures, common ravens, and WWD Tapejara.
