Inga Rasen - Streets Of Rage 3 (Mucom88/M98 Showcase)

M98 is the "automatic music generator program" that Yuzo Koshiro created for his newly acquired NEC PC-98. Based off of "M", the Apple Macintosh's interactive composition program, Koshiro programmed a version of Mucom88 with the ability to generate random sequences and mix several tones together through controlled macros that can alter any sequence with the push of a button. Streets Of Rage 3 was the first game that was composed using the M98 program. Beyond Oasis would be composed with M98 as well.

This video is a display of the ingenuity and insanity that's possible with M98. Yuzo Koshiro shared some files on his Twitter a while ago, and within these M98-compatible files was a condensed version of Inga Rasen. All I did was extract each segment and did my best to sequence the track as it's supposed to sound like. Either way, a track like this can only be understood if you sleep on it a handful of times.

Looking at the code, M98 is more of a sample generator rather than AI music, and I plan to use it for something. I still need to learn what values and macro calls do what, but I know that with enough experimenting, magic can be made. I also started editing again. Cooking something right now, give time for me please.
