There is no way to do without festive cookies and cupcakes with nuts, raisins and spices. This is a traditional Christmas dessert, called Striezel or Stollen and is very expensive.
Dresden's main Christmas market is called the Striezelmarkt and opens in the city's central Altmarkt square (Altmarkt, Old Market) every year on the Thursday before the first Advent Sunday. This is one of the oldest fairs in Germany, which has been organized for 577 times.
Now more than 240 merchants, bakers, woodworkers and owners of various attractions participate in the Dresden fair. A whole city of wooden kiosks with brightly lit showcases, ingeniously decorated with Christmas balls, garlands, coniferous wreaths, toys and sweets and souvenirs sold here is being built on the square. On the roofs of kiosks, doll figures play out biblical, fairy-tale plots and scenes from folk life. Many figures on the roofs move, attracting the attention of guests to the production, and at the same time to the showcase filled with festive goods.
