In order to force the super worms to pupate, we need to get them into isolation and into the dark. Choose the largest super worms you have, recommended to be at least 1.5-2" in length, and fat. You want to provide the superworms something nutritious before attempting to get them to pupate. I typically use a chunk of banana a few days before so they have plenty of moisture. I place them into small glass jars so I can see them without disturbing them. It can take a week or so before it curls into a C shape, it will begin to pupate within the next week or so. Once in its pupa form, another 2-3 weeks, it will transform into a beetle. Place the beetle with its brethren and make sure it has access to moisture.

You can use a number of different enclosures. I personally use a 11x11x5 storage bin that I cut the bottom out of and replaced with a screen, I then place that bin into another bin to help with egg collection. It makes a 2 tier bin that has enough space in the bottom for bedding and air circulation. I place some paper towel rolls that I cut in half for hides. I drilled holes in the lid, and 2 holes near the top on all sides, and allowing the bins to be further stacked and retain enough airflow to not suffocate the beetles. Breeding them is the simplest part. Your beetles need to have been beetles for about 2 weeks. You just need males and females. I suggest having more females than males to increase your superworm egg production. I find it difficult to sex them, however, this image may help you. Links in the description on the info I found about it. Female beetles will lay eggs in a variety of places. You can exploit this by stacking cardboard together, and taping it in the middle. I found out about this from the channel @Tungs TV. Link to his channel and video in the descript. It was a very helpful trick and I am eager to give it a try. Female beetles may also lay eggs under hides, food, or anything else that is in the enclosure. superworms farm So be careful when removing things, as they may have eggs on them.
Breeding Superworms
I grind old fashion oats with a magic bullet to make it finer. It makes sorting your super worms out much easier. It does not seem to have a negative impact on the larve. I bought this shifter on amazon. It has 3 mesh sizes, and allows me to easily sort and harvest my super worms. The worms will eat the substrate they are pled in, but you also need to provide them with moisture. If you are not careful, you can grow mold in your bins and that is not good. If you do, remove the pieces of food and the surrounding substrate. superworm breeding. I normally use potato slices and baby carrots for additional food and moisture. My worms and beetles typically consume the entire piece. Try to scatter it in the bin so as many worms and beetles as possible have access to the resource.
