The Silk Mosiac- NIFT Delhi FC Craft Cluster Documentary on Thangka Applique

The purpose of the Craft Cluster was to document the intricate craft of Thangka Applique. The cluster allotted was McLeodganj, Kangra. The process of exploring the region, finding out the artisans was an eye - opening experience. Learning how Thangka Appliques are made by using the exotic natural fibre and expensive fabrics, taking months and sometimes years to complete depending upon the size.

Talking about Thangka Applique, we have various elements that are a must-have for every piece and they are not just mere designs, they have meanings behind it. To get to know this rare, auspicious craft and witnessing the glory of it was knowledgeable and a real experience. Every detail of the craft and the cluster have been documented through the Audio Visual clip, the document and the 30 postcards.

Giving special thanks to our master craftsman, Rinchen Tsering, who not only helped us throughout the process but also extended technical and critical support while we were in McLeodganj. The team made us feel at home and communicating with them was easy because of their positive demeanour.
