In this Scratch 3 basics tutorial, we’ll explore the ‘My Blocks’ category. These are custom blocks that are like functions in other programming languages. We can use these to group a set of instructions to perform a single task, say to fade in a sprite. It makes it easier for another person to understand our code, and also it’s useful to help us in the future if we forget what the set of instructions do. We can also use functions to make our code reusable if we need to perform the same task a few times. We can feed our functions some extra information like numbers and text. These are called parameters. It is important to name our custom blocks after what they actually do. I strongly encourage you to use functions as much as your code calls for it.
