Ganpati Bappa Morya ! We are ready to welcome Lord Ganpati with his favourite Modak! And today I am sharing with you how to make modak without mold.
The traditional modak recipe is made with rice flour and stuffed with jaggery & grated coconut.
This modak recipe is made with rava instead of rice flour. It is softer, and stays moist for longer and does not dry out.
But today’s video is not just about a modak recipe, there are some very interesting puranic stories too about why we offer modak to Ganapati!

Modak
Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 20 minutes
Makes: 21
Ingredients:
1 cup rava
2 cup milk
¾ cup sugar
¼ tsp cardamom powder
1 cup grated jaggery
1 cup grated coconut
¼ cup ghee
Saffron milk to garnish

METHOD:
Dough:
Take the rava, sugar and milk in a pan.
Cook till the mixture starts coming together like a ball and starts to hold the shape.
Now add in the cardamom powder and 1 tbsp ghee.
Mix well, cover and cool slightly.
Knead the dough well for 3-4 minutes forming a smooth and soft dough.
Stuffing:
Cook together the jaggery and the coconut over low heat till the jaggery melts and the mixture acquires a glazed look.
Add the cardamom powder and remove from heat.
Cool completely.
Shaping:
Make lemon sized balls of the dough. Roll out into a small puri.
Place a tbsp of the stuffing in the center.
Pick up the edges and pinch together. Bring together the top and twist slightly to shape the modak.
Steam the modaks for 10 minutes.
Pour a little ghee over the modaks. Garnish with saffron milk and serve.
