My best advice is:
Go for quality not quantity and buy the best quality you can afford.

I prefer acrylics and the quality of this type of paint is fully on par with that of oil paint, I would even say that the acrylic gives me better opportunities to achieve the goals I want with my painting process. We all work in slightly different ways, and it can be a bit tricky what you prefer.
What I talk about in this video, is what has worked for me, but maybe it's different for you, and maybe oil is the best choice for you anyway.
First let me say that even though oil paint and acrylics have many similarities, the two types of paint are fundamentally very different.
Significant differences between oil and acrylics are:
1. Acrylic paint does not smell … oil does.
2. Acrylic paint dryes faster.
3. The oil paint binds more pigment than acrylic paint, and therefore the oil can appear more brilliant or vibrant than acrylics.
