Описание к видео Spectacular ridge hike from Pilatus to Widderfeld with multiple ibex sightings (2024/08/09)

3-hour T3-4 ridge hike from Pilatus to Widderfeld that offers a stunning alpine adventure. We took the first cogwheel train from Alpnachstad at 8:10 am. Although the train was filled up to capacity, there was no wait time, and Pilatus Kulm was pleasantly empty upon arrival. Later in the day, we met two travelers who mentioned having to wait two hours at Alpnachstad around noon, so it’s worth getting on the first train! At Pilatus Kulm, we were greeted by a group of female ibexes and their young, a rare sight as they tend to retreat once the crowds arrive. The hike started with a relatively easy and secure path up to Tomlishorn, featuring breathtaking views along the rock path. From Tomlishorn to Widderfeld, the hike became more challenging, with sections rated T3 and a brief T4 climb. The ridge between these two peaks is absolutely spectacular, offering incredible views in both directions. The T4 section below Widderfeld includes chains for support, but the rocky path can be slippery, and there’s a steep drop on one side, so caution is required. Once you reach the broad, grassy ridge of Widderfeld, the hike becomes easier. We even encountered three majestic male ibexes relaxing in the grass, seemingly unfazed by passing hikers. The return journey was just as beautiful, but re-entering the busy Pilatus area after the peaceful hike was a bit of a shock. If you plan to take the train back down, I highly recommend reserving a seat in advance. We didn’t, and ended up waiting 40 minutes in line for the gondola. If we had reserved a train seat at that late time (around 3:00 pm), the wait would have been 2 ½ hours. To avoid delays, book your return train early and enjoy a relaxing meal or drink while you wait.
