President Benigno S. Aquino III led the wreath-laying ceremony at the Hall of Heroes in the War Memorial of Korea to honor the fallen PEFTOK (Philippine Expeditionary Force to Korea) heroes during the Korean War from 1950 to 1953.

The wreath was laid before the names of the 112 Filipinos who died when the Philippine Government sent 7,420 soldiers in 1950. For five years, five battalion combat teams of the Philippine Army served as the PEFTOK against communist conquest.

The President also accepted a posthumous plaque of appreciation to his father, Senator Benigno S. Aquino Jr., who worked as a war correspondent at the age of 17 for Manila Times.

According to the plaque handed by Korea Journalists Society President Mr. Won-Ki Hong and Korean War Correspondents Association President Ki-Byung Park, it is in recognition of Senator Aquino's gallantry and valuable contribution for world peace and freedom as war correspondent during the said war.

After the ceremony, the President proceeded to tour the United Nations Room of the War Memorial Museum with members of his Cabinet and other officials.

The War Memorial of Korea located in Yongsan-gu, Seoul was opened in 1994 to show the military history of Korea and to cherish the memory of deceased patriots and war heroes. The memorial building has six indoor exhibition rooms and an outdoor exhibition where various records of the war and soldiers who devoted their lives for the country have been collected, preserved and exhibited.
