Train Cab Ride NL / Emergency Brakes ATB / Amsterdam - Haarlem - Den Haag / VIRM IC / January 2023

Описание к видео Train Cab Ride NL / Emergency Brakes ATB / Amsterdam - Haarlem - Den Haag / VIRM IC / January 2023

Hi everyone! Welcome on board this belated video.

New Camera
I've been testing a new camera in the past few weeks. Here's a list with some of the changes:
Higher quality video.
Camera stabilization is turned off. This gives you as a viewer a better idea of how the train is moving.
The frame rate gone up from 30fps to 60fps. Of course you can still enjoy the 4K resolution!
In this video I show the speedometer for the first time since I started this channel.

Poll on Youtube
Lots of you have filled in the poll I started a few weeks ago about the wide view or the normal (narrow) camera view. About 65% of you voted for the use of the wide view because this gives you a greater view out of the window and a better idea of speed. Thank you all so much for voting!

0:00 Amsterdam Centraal
Ok, here we go! We depart perfectly on time from Amsterdam.

Just after Amsterdam you will see the permitted speed go up to 60km/h and so on. The speeds the limiter can show are 40, 60, 80, 130 and 140km/h. So the driver is not always allowed to drive the speed shown by the limiter. Can you spot the first place where this happens?

5:22 Amsterdam Sloterdijk
After the station you can now see junctions. Those are build here so trains can change direction at Sloterdijk when there are construction works going on at Amsterdam Centraal.

10:21 Halfweg-Zwanenburg
13:05 Haarlem Spaarnwoude

14:41 Haarlem
Arriving at one of the oldest station in The Netherlands. Did you know the first train in the Netherlands ran on the 20th of September 1839 between Amsterdam and Haarlem?

21:36 Heemstede-Aerdenhout
27:02 Hillegom

28:41 Lisse (Emergency Brakes Applied)
While passing this location our ATB safety system in the other cabin does a wrong measurement and opens the emergency brakes of the train. As a driver I'll get a message about this on the train diagnostics so I know what is going on.

The emergency braking distance for a VIRM on dry tracks is about 500 meters when running at 125km/h (as we did at that moment). After coming to a full stop I make sure the train manager and the passengers know there's just a fault in the trains system. This so people know it's nothing really bad. After this I get a look at what is going on with the train and directly after that I call the train dispatcher to give him an update about the fact I need to reset a system on board.

In the meantime I give the train manager the task to start resetting the ATB safety system in the other train cabin (at the back of the train). I make myself ready to go there as well because after the reset I must make sure the applied brakes of the train be taken off the wheels and tracks again.

While we're working on a solution the train traffic on the other side goes on. After the ATB reset in the back of the train all systems are back online and we can get the train ready for the rest of the ride. When I arrive back in the front cabin I must retest the braking systems. After the train is ready for departure I make a call with the train dispatcher for permission to continue.

Right after this we are allowed to drive on normal speed again. in the old days the driver had to drive on sight until the next main signal, but those rules changed. Since I don't have a sight on my next signal we take it easy until I see the next green light for our train.

36:28 Voorhout
Calling the train dispatcher Leiden to request as many green lights as possible so we can make a quicker arrival and departure at Leiden. The train dispatcher will see what he can do for us.

37:58 Leiden Centraal
Tracks are not available at Leiden yet. Therefor we must slow down the train a little. But as you can see a few signals further this all changes and we can enter the station on full speed (80km/h). On arrival I let the train manager know our signal has already been set for departure.

After departure from Leiden the train dispatcher leads us to the middle track so we can pass the sprinter ahead of us that's also running towards Den Haag Centraal.

42:56 De Vink
44:36 Voorschoten

46:42 Den Haag Mariahoeve
Back to the right track at Mariahoeve so we are bound for Den Haag Centraal again.

48:42 Den Haag Laan van NOI + Den Haag Centraal
Arriving at the final stop of the ride with a 8 minute delay. The official plan was to get another train set combined with this one at the tail of our train. But due to our delay that train set has already been brought to the platform. Now we're combining the train in front of our train for the ride back to Amsterdam.

I hope you have enjoyed this belated video. Let me know what you think of the the new camera! Enjoy your day and see you back on Friday the 10th of February for the next one. Cheers!
