On Sunday, Aug. 25, 2024, 19-year-old Reed became one of the first adaptive athletes to summit America's Mountain, Pikes Peak (14,109 feet). He was born with Spina Bifida condition that affects the spinal cord. Reed has had 18 surgeries since birth, and uses a manual wheelchair for mobility.

Over 50 volunteers from The Lockwood Foundation came together to assist Reed in his quest. On Saturday, the team reached Barr Camp at 10,200 feet where they stayed overnight. With an early rise on Sunday, Reed and his team started up the mountain in the dark and met more volunteers that had driven to the summit and hiked down to around 13,000 feet.
