Investigating the Trail's Safety Concerns

Описание к видео Investigating the Trail's Safety Concerns

Episode 2: Danger at Bear Lake? Today I am hiking at Bear Lake Manitoba in Whiteshell Provincial Park, putting the trail's reputation to the test. According to locals, the trail got a bad rap a few years ago when a climber broke bones falling because of poorly installed and/or maintained climbing ropes. I went to check on this. It turns out there is only one correctly installed line and the ridge that needs it most just has a simple nylon rope tied around a boulder. The trail is beautiful and doable but until the province or some volunteer hikers with the right equipment bolt a proper line into the rock, be super careful on the second climb! If the rope snaps or slips, it won't be a good day.
Ropes and safety aside, the trail takes you over 4 billion year old Canadian Shield, through beautiful old forest and a picnic area waits for you at the end, by the lake. Happy hiking! :)
