SEVEN KINGS - 3RD JANUARY 2026 - 1ST VISIT

Opened by the Great Eastern Railway on March 1, 1899, Seven Kings station was established primarily to support the rapid suburban development of the Grange and Bungalow estates. The station's construction was heavily influenced by the property developer Archibald Cameron Corbett, who provided financial guarantees to the railway company to ensure the area had a dedicated commuter link to London. Built from the outset with four tracks to avoid the congestion issues seen at nearby Ilford, the station also served as a junction for the Fairlop Loop until 1947. Today, the station remains a vital transport hub on the Elizabeth line, retaining much of its original Victorian structure while serving as a gateway to the diverse multicultural neighborhood that grew around it.

Seven Kings station features a linear four-platform layout, with platforms 3 and 4 typically handling the majority of passenger traffic. The station is primarily served by the Elizabeth line, which operates frequent high-capacity services between Shenfield in the east and Heathrow Terminal 5 or Paddington in the west. While the station sits on the busy Great Eastern Main Line, faster Greater Anglia trains usually pass through without stopping.
The platforms are located below street level, connected by a central footbridge and equipped with lifts that provide step-free access to all areas.

In my opinion, Seven Kings is an alright place to trainspot. This is because there are a good amount of trains with a mix of Elizabeth Line and Greater Anglia services. However, the fence between platforms 2 and 3 and the bushes at the end of the platform can obstruct the view of the trains a bit, but | can still get a clear view. The fence is good for passenger safety, so it is there for a good reason. Overall, I enjoyed trainspotting here and it is not a bad place to record trains.

Fun Fact: Seven Kings was a major hotspot for trainspotters in the 1960s and 70s. Because the station sits on the Great Eastern Main Line (GEML), it was one of the last places in London where enthusiasts could regularly see and photograph the final steam-hauled freight trains as they passed through on their way to and from the nearby yards.
