The Panthers Virtual Jazz Orchestra is proud to present the first in a series of three videos covering the Insaneintherain Jazz Video Game Medley! We took this absolutely crazy arrangement of some of the best video game music out there and recorded ourselves performing it for you to hear!

I am so excited to finally share this with everybody! This project has been in the works since early June, and it has been an absolute joy to see this thing come together. This project started when my good friend John Green (who you'll see absolutely killing it on that bari saxophone) contacted me to try and put together a live performance of this at our college. However, due to the pandemic, the live performance quickly turned out to not be feasible, so we decided that the next best thing would be to present this project digitally! The musicians in this video comprise many of our good friends, and we are super glad that they agreed to work on this project with us. We were able to record several of the musicians locally (with appropriate social distancing guidelines in place) but several musicians in the group had to handle the recording process on their own, making for a unique challenge when it came to mixing the audio. The strings in particular offered a unique challenge, as we only had a couple of string players participating. Due to some clever editing and the help of a few plugins, we were able to make the section sound a little bit fuller.

The audio quality is definitely a product of the method in which the recordings happened, but I'm still very pleased with the result. As an editor, I learned a lot about mixing through working on this, and it definitely represents a step up in audio quality compared to most of my other videos. I'd like to give a special shoutout to Hannah Butler, who graciously agreed to edit this video with only a few weeks notice. Without her, this project would still be in development, sine my video editing skills are slow. I would also like to thank all of the musicians who participated in this project - you guys really made this project a joy to work on and I can't thank you enough for agreeing to do this crazy thing.

Stay tuned for Movement 2, which will be releasing two weeks from today, on Saturday, October 17th.
