In this episode, Gerald Horne and I discuss his latest book, The Counter-Revolution of 1836: Texas Slavery & Jim Crow and the Roots of US Fascism.

We also discuss the recent controversy with James Sweet, president of the American Historical Association, over his essay on so-called “presentism,” and certain related problems with Catherine Liu’s book Virtue Hoarders. Dr. Horne also talks about the Haitian Revolution, Juneteenth, and Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale.

I’d Like to thank Prasanna at International Publishers and Malachi Dray for their assistance. I’d also like to give a very special thanks to Jason Moran for the use of his music in this episode.
