Описание к видео Ep. 15: Gerald Horne on ARMED STRUGGLE? Panthers & Communists; Black Nationalists & Liberals

In this interview, Dr. Gerald Horne and I discuss his new book, ARMED STRUGGLE?: PANTHERS & COMMUNISTS; BLACK NATIONALISTS & LIBERALS IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA THROUGH THE 60S & 70S (International Publishers, 2024). Dr. Horne discusses the history of armed violence in Southern California leading up to the formation of the Black Panther Party. We also discuss the role of anticommunism, the Smith Act Trials, and the Red Scare in Hollywood paving the way for the rise of the Panthers, while also focusing on the NAACP's turn away from internationalism and its capitulation to the ruling class post-1954. Dr. Horne also discusses the many contradictions of Eldridge Cleaver, the role of the Lumpen in the BPP analysis of revolution, and the "Free Angela!" campaign, BPP and CP internationalism and the legacy of both in the labor militancy in Southern California in 2023 and 2024, among other things.
