What a year it has been for Emmerdale actor John Middleton. He was won well deserved praise for his portrayal of Ashley Thomas, a much loved and long term character who has been diagnosed with dementia.

As Ashley’s health deteriorates, Emmerdale are taking their time with a story that is affecting the whole of the UK given the huge percentage of people indirectly or directly affected by the cruel condition.
