Welcome to Bowlers Paradise!

900 Global adds to the already deep lineup of pearl options for Storm Products with the all new Xponent Pearl. This new option features the same core as the original solid release, the shrapnel 2.0 core with a low 2.48 RG and mid strength .042 differential. On the outside is the never before used reserve blend 702 pearl cover finished with their reactagloss polish.

For the layout I went with a 4.5x4.5x3 2LS Layout. This is the same layout I used on the Roto Grip Duo as well as my iQ tour solid, both of which have been great, go to options for me. It’s a layout that rarely lets the ball miss the roll phase without it being too much to handle, which gives me a great benchmark style look I can rely on, especially when the conditions are tough.

AND ON THE LANES… I gotta say I don’t really understand why they brought this one to their lineup. Don’t get me wrong, I like this shape. In fact, I like it a lot. But what I get out of this Xponent Pearl is very similar to what I get out of the Roto Grip Duo as well as the iQ Tour ruby and the Summit peak. There’s so much overlap with all those pieces, the addition of this one for 900 seems kind of forced, but that doesn’t make it just a worthless addition to the line.

Because to be honest, even though there’s a lot of overlap, this one does sort of sit in between all of those other pearls. The differences are subtle for sure, but of all of those pieces, this one actually feels like the most likely option to make the trip to vegas with me for nationals. It’s got that forward roll off the spot similar to the duo and the peak. It’s a touch stronger than the iQ ruby, which is partially due to the fresh cover, but also the increase in differential.

But even though I’m glad to have this one added to my own list of options, if I had any of those other three choices available, I wouldn’t lose sleep over NOT having this one from 900. I could just as easily justify bringing the peak or the ruby along with a duo, and have what this Xponent pearl gives me out of that pairing. Although it’s already a far better reacting ball, this one fills a similar place as the Phaze 5, being right in the middle of the bag, and potentially unable to beat the more defined shapes from other pieces.

But, if I were looking to build an arsenal made for versatility, pairing this one with the Phaze 2 and the Eternity would be an awesome set of three choices. Although all three of these pieces are very versatile, they’re all unique in what they do. You would have just about every shape available to you on the lanes, but to really use it, you would have to know how to trick each piece just right to yield the best results. It’s not a great strategy for the typical house bowler, but for the tournament bowler, that’s a great arsenal to stay in the pocket and out of trouble.

I took a look at the troublemaker pearl from DV8 and here you can see how it is more cover dominant, and really wants to use the friction when it sees it. This one has been great on fresher conditions as it likes to roll early and heavy, which means bending the lane isn’t what its great at, so it will be less versatile than the xponent pearl, but better when matched up in the right part of the lane.

The I grabbed the summit peak and here I see a shape that is just a bit more core dominant than the Xponent Pearl. You can see how much this one flares once it reaches dry boards, and when that’s used the right way, it’s pretty awesome. The Summit peak is again, a more niche style shape compared to the Xponent, but will yield better results when matched up in the right part of the lane.

Here’s my recommendations on types of bowlers that I think would match up well with the Xponent Pearl from 900 Global. The first is for bowlers with low axis tilt. This one is a great option for them as the mid-strength differential balances their need to get the ball through the middle part of the lane, but still stand up and go through the pins. It’s a sort of goldilocks type reaction being not too strong, but also, not too weak.

The second recommendation is for bowlers who don’t like to play the deep inside part of the lane. I personally love to see how many boards I can cover, but this Xponent pearl isn’t made for that. If you like to stay outside and use friction, this is a great choice as it blends out the wet dry well, and provides a controlled reaction off the spot even when it rolls a little early.
