How to Adjust Valve Clearances/Valve Lash on a Ford Pinto (SOHC) Engine | Tech Tip 10

Setting Valve Clearances. More of a major service item this one, but nevertheless, a crucial bit of maintenance if you want to get a long and happy life out of your engine. If the gaps are too large, you'll hear a loud ticking/rattling noise from the top of the engine, and will not be achieving optimum valve lift. If they are too small you could be preventing valves from seating in the head, resulting in a lack of compression and performance. Here's how to check and adjust your clearances.
