The Omihachiman Sagicho Festival is a traditional Japanese festival that takes place annually in Omihachiman, a city in the Shiga Prefecture of Japan. The festival is celebrated around the 14th and 15th of March, and it is one of the most famous and oldest fire festivals in Japan.

The festival is said to have originated in the 16th century, during the Sengoku period, a time of civil wars in Japan. It was originally held to ward off evil spirits and pray for a good harvest.

During the festival, large floats called "sagicho" are paraded through the city streets. These floats are decorated with intricate carvings and traditional paper lanterns, and are pulled by local residents. At night, the floats are set on fire in a spectacular display of flames and sparks.

The festival also includes a traditional dance called the "yoshibayashi" and the playing of taiko drums. Local residents dress up in traditional costumes and carry small torches as they dance through the streets.

The Omihachiman Sagicho Festival attracts thousands of visitors each year, both from Japan and from around the world. It is considered to be an important cultural event, and is recognized as a National Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property by the Japanese government.
