Spark plug is very important part of petrol and CNG engine, where spark is created to ignite the air fuel mixture and start the combustion.

Spark Plug gap – 0.5 mm to 1.2 (when you buy new spark plug it will mostly come with 0.5mm value.
Spark Plug replacement schedule – as spark plug works in very harsh environment, usually replacement schedule varies from 10,000 Kms to 100,000 Kms depending upon material of spark plug. Copper made spark plugs should be replaced within 20,000 Kms and Iridium based spark plugs can work fine upto 100,000 Kms.

1. Central Electrode
2. Ground Electrode
3. Insulator
4. Gasket
5. Shell
6. Terminal Nut
7. Ribs
It is mainly made up of 3 components Central Electrode, Ground Electrode and Insulator.
12V supply comes from Ignition coil and it converts it to 12,000 Volts to 38,000 Volts based on Micheal Faraday’s law of Electromagnetic Induction. This high voltage current goes to spark plug and produces spark near air gap due to ionization of air fuel mixture and finally the current get its ground from cylinder head.
Spark plug should be installed based on its condition, If spark plug is new then install it with the help of hand and when it start to resist, use special tool and rotate it to 90 degree & If spark plug is old rotate 30 degree only.
Spark plugs are generally placed near to inlet valve due to cooling requirement as exhaust valve get very hot while engine is in operating condition.
