PAINTING VIDEO DESCRIPTION – This painting tutorial will take you through easy step-by-step instructions on how to draw and paint this powerful landscape animal portrait painting "HOWLING WOLF” with acrylic paint. I’m going to date myself here, but do you remember when MTV first aired on television? I can remember racing home from school in the afternoon, grabbing a snack from the fridge and sitting on the couch with my cut-off stone-washed jeans, hair-sprayed mop-top, and dangling earnings, watching music videos and signing alone to Video Killed the Radio Star, You Better Run and We Don’t Talk Anymore. Every day more and more videos came out from my favorite artists, The Pretenders, Styx, Poison, Def Leppard, Duran Duran, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Van Halen and Journey! It was awesome! I was hooked! I remember Motley Crue’s video for Home Sweet Home, ran at #1 on the MTV video charts for as long as I can remember until it was beat out by the most spectacular video ever, one that was so epic you could even have called it a “movie” if you wanted. You know the one I’m talking about—Thriller! I will never forget the first time watching it almost 40 years ago and thinking about it still gives me the chills this very day. The story, the music the dancing, gets my juices flowing every time. And, although this painting is not of a werewolf per se, I have to admit that Michael Jackson’s metamorphosis into that hairy man-eating beast is kind of the inspiration behind this painting. So, join me and celebrate the wonderous world of nature and wolves, or just take a trip down memory lane and pay homage to a cult classic from one of the best decades in the history of mankind, and capture the imagination of its viewers and paint this piece of art that is sure inspire nostalgia and spark conversation. The first lesson you’ll learn in this beginner level painting tutorial is how to paint a background with dark and vibrant colors with atmospheric dimension for a dramatic nighttime sky. After learning how to use a dot-to-dot drawing method, you’ll draw an outline of your Canis Lupis creature, followed by applying a simple base coat for its fur. Using a scumbling or scrubbing paint method, you'll add a smokey mist or fog rising from the horizon, adding to the magical scene. After using a fan brush to paint forest evergreen trees, you’ll use one brush to draw your wolf’s facial features. Then you’ll use a directional brushstroke for added depth and dimension to the canine’s fur creating contours to accentuate the form. You’ll then finish your cousin to the werewolf of London with added highlights and shadows to develop texture in the realistic coat, creating a 3-D realistic photo effect. Then you’ll use highlights and shadows on the carnivorous dog’s body to emphasis contours, curves and movement, which will create the look and feel of muscle movement as he bends his head back to howl at the full moon. The process is so fun and simple, you could change the position of the wolf, the direction of its head, or you could paint a coyote, jackal, fox or hyena. Using only 3 brushes, 7 colors, and only one brush per step, we'll create this conversational masterpiece. Not just a beautiful painting, but an easy painting for beginners. Paint alone, or with friends! Have a date night, paint party, or virtual paint night. So, let's get painting and let's get sipping!
