Written by Johnny McHaclameny, Can't Come Down comes from the 1968 LP 'The Dodos' otherwise called The Plaid Album, due to the plaid cover.
The album itself is a theme record where each of its 4 sides representing an aspect of a day, and also the phases of a human life. This song is taken from side 3, which is the "night" side.

In an interview in 1969 Johnny said this about the song, "I had had a pretty strong LSD trip and was writing a song about it, and somewhere along the line I started thinking about how there was a similarity in the loss of control between a trip and being head over heels for a woman. So I had the idea to make it a mix of the two ideas. I think it came out pretty well. We did a few different versions of it, and the one we recorded with me singing was used as the single, and the one with my brother singing was used on the album. I like them both, but I do prefer the single version, less because it's me singing and more because it's just a cleaner sound."
