Trudeau cabinet shuffle: 8 new ministers sworn after chaotic week for Liberals | FULL

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau shuffled his cabinet Friday after a chaotic week for the Liberals that saw two ministers step down and renewed calls for his resignation.

Eight new ministers were sworn in and four other existing cabinet members were reassigned at a ceremony presided over by Governor General Mary Simon at Rideau Hall.

Following the ceremony, several ministers called for “unity” amongst the Liberal caucus, with some warning about the looming threat to Canada’s economy from U.S. president-elect Donald Trump.

“We need to work together for the domestic economy and for our trade relationship with the United States, and if we don’t all band in the same direction, the results are not going to be as strong as they otherwise would,” said Anita Anand, who takes on the portfolio of internal trade in addition to her role as minister of transport.

Friday’s cabinet shuffle comes after Chrystia Freeland resigned as finance minister in a surprise announcement, just hours before she was set to deliver the Fall Economic Statement.
