Train Akita to Walk Off Leash ● Independent American Akita

In this video I demonstrate how I taught my American Akita to walk off leash at my side. I'll do a better video when I can have someone else do the recording.

Kinjo is a 4 year old unaltered male American Akita. In the beginning he was a nightmare to walk. I hated walking with him. Though patience and repetition I trained Kinjo to pay attention to me and respond to corrections. Now I can have him walk off leash beside me. This video was recorded after an hour of walking through various neighborhoods off leash. Walking him is very enjoyable now. I look forward to it all of the time!

I still keep a leash on him, just in case. There could always be an off leash loose dog that runs up to us, or it could be a Karen who freaks out over a big dog like him being off leash. For that reason I keep the leash on him, but it just drags on the ground.

I wish you could see what I did better, but with no one to record me this was the best I could do. I'll remake this video at some point when I can have someone record for me.
