ASMR - Shining new shoes for longevity - AE Williamsburg

Today we have an example of what you should always do to brand new leather shoes. Why you may ask, simple. Dry unconditioned leather is susceptible to cracking and prematurely damaging the fibers of the uppers. Doing this step is preventative maintenance. As anyone who owns a car knows preventative maintenance is key to avoiding costly repairs. The same can be said for leather shoes. If you don’t take care of your uppers from the start you open yourself up to premature damage. Giving your shoes a quick clean and waxing not only ensures that your new shoes take their first steps fully hydrated and flexible. Waxing your shoes, even with a single layer, is going to add a protective layer keeping your uppers clean and pristine. Imagine going to a party or function proudly wearing your new shoes only to have someone spill something on them now you have a costly time-consuming repair on your hands…. Wouldn’t be a problem with a nice wax layer on them. You never know when the shoes were last conditioned. I always say air on the side of caution and do it yourself once they are out of the box. There are only benefits to this and the possible downsides are expensive. it’ll be the quickest shoe clean and conditioning you probably will ever do so why not.

Doing this is quite simple. No soap is needed as they are new. Just a quick brush to get dust off, a simple cleaning conditioner, a cream conditioner (you don’t even need color unless you want), then follow up with wax, as many layers as you would like, and done !
