COMING HOME

Years ago when we had lived on the river, we had the pleasure of meeting our neighbour who was, and still is, an avid boat enthusiast.

We lived on a small island on the Detroit River surrounded by water, where this incredibly gorgeous yacht would slip in and out of the canal behind us on a regular basis.

This beauty is a 1965 Chris Craft Roamer 48 Riviera.

She was purchased new by the owner of the Gaslight Restaurant in downtown Detroit and delivered to Brenner Marine in Toledo Ohio in April of 1965.

She has an overall length of 54 feet with a 13 foot beam, 4 foot draft and a displacement of approximately 28 tons.

While she would normally cruise at about 9 knots, she is capable of 15 knots.

Her original gas engines were replaced by twin vintage 1961 Detroit Diesels that were removed from a 50 foot Shepard motor yacht.

With 400 gallons of diesel , she would have an approximate range of 450 miles at 9 knots.

Her third and current owner purchased the vessel in very poor condition in November of 1995.

From 1995 to 1997, she underwent a complete hull reconstruction, replating and repowering the vessel from gas to diesel.

From 1997 until present day, Precious Metal is continually being improved.
PRECIOUS METAL is now equipped with a 9 kilowatt Northern Lights generator as well as a Naiad Hydraulic Roll Stabilization system.

We captured her here heading towards home on a calm summer morning.

Regardless of the wind and weather conditions, I have witnessed this excursion over and over being flawlessly executed by the owner while the guests relax below deck.

Heavy crosswinds, multiple vessels parked on the port and starboard side have never been a challenge.

And he does it without any assistance each and every time!!

Docking it like a boss!!
