Banning female genital mutilation in The Gambia | Jaha Dukureh

Jaha Dukureh, Gambian female genital mutilation (FGM) activist and founder of Safe Hands for Girls, was part of the effort that resulted in The Gambia’s formal ban of female genital mutilation on November 24th, 2015. Following 20 years of dictatorial rule, no one ever thought this day would come.

This session took place during the Leadership & Government Plenary Session at the 2017 One Young World Summit, the world's premier forum for young leaders, in Bogotá, Colombia. The Summit brought together 1,300 delegates from more than 190 countries, empowering them to make lasting connections to create positive change.
