THE Honourable Fatou Lamin Faye is a graduate of the University of Huddersfield who has risen to be an education minister in The Gambia - from 2004 she was appointed as Minister of Education and, from 2007, Minister for Basic and Secondary Education. Under her leadership, education in The Gambia has been transformed resulting in significant improvements in children's learning achievements in literacy and numeracy. The University presented her with an honorary award at its 2013 July Awards Ceremonies. Here she talks about her time at the University, the reasons behind her team's success in delivering education in The Gambia and her targets for the future, particularly with regard to the education of Muslim children in the country.
