Janet E. Hunt, born in Dallas, began learning piano with her mother at age five. Commencing organ study at age 15, she received performance degrees from Oberlin Conservatory, Southern Methodist University, and the University of North Texas. At Oberlin, her organ teacher encouraged her to study the harpsichord, resulting in a life-long love of both instruments. She has been a finalist in several prestigious competitions, including the Bodky Competition for Early Music, the Edinburgh Festival Harpsichord Competition, and the SEHKS competition, plus two appearances at the Prix André Marchal Competition in Biarritz, France. She has recorded two compact discs of works by César Franck and Louis Vierne. Dr. Hunt holds the Fellowship Certificate from the American Guild of Organists, and was a featured performer at their 1999 Region VII Convention. In the Boston area, she has played recitals at Holy Cross Cathedral, St. John's Lutheran, Wellesley Congregational, Harvard University Memorial Chapel, and Methuen Memorial Music Hall. Recently she appeared on two episodes of the CatholicTV series, "On a Sacred Note". Dr. Hunt publishes editions of early 17th century sacred music for solo voices and organ at www.huntmusic.us. She is the Music Director/Organist at Saint John's Seminary in Brighton.
