For years the Canary Islands have benefited when travellers feel uncertain about other destinations. When instability appears in parts of the world, many holidaymakers naturally look for safe, reliable destinations with great weather and easy flights.

And that is exactly where Lanzarote, Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura often come into the conversation.

In this #TruthTravel report, Mr TravelON explores whether the ongoing Middle East conflict and travel warnings affecting destinations such as Egypt, Turkey and parts of the Eastern Mediterranean could once again drive more tourists toward the Canary Islands.

For a long time Mr TravelON has actually predicted something different.

He believed 2026 would be the beginning of a tourism slowdown after the massive post-lockdown travel boom that saw millions of people returning to international holidays.

Prices have increased across many destinations, and many travellers have already said that the Canary Islands are becoming expensive compared to previous years.

At the same time, the islands have faced intense international media attention.

Stories about anti-tourism protests, overtourism, sustainability and housing pressures have been widely reported across global media outlets. Some travel publications and influencers have even suggested tourists should avoid visiting.

Despite that, the Canary Islands have remained one of the most popular destinations in Europe.

So now the big question is:

Will global uncertainty keep tourism strong in 2026 and 2027?

Mr TravelON also talks about the reality of modern travel today.

Travel is not always as easy as it once was.

Airport queues, passport control delays and new border systems such as the EU Entry Exit System (EES) are already causing confusion across parts of Europe. Even though the system has been delayed until September 2026, many travellers are already worried about what this could mean for future airport experiences.
