This video records most of the trip of my Dad's old AP5 Valiant which did an amazing job on it's 2500km road trip from Adelaide the Brisbane, a trip that it hasn't done in over 40 years. It's a testament to my Dad's servicing and maintenance of this car.
A little bit of history of the car it's self. My Grandparents bought this car new off the lot in 1964 in Adelaide South Australia, where it was built. They owned the car for many years and actually drove it, in around 1975, from Adelaide the Cairns and return on a holiday. I always remember the present they bought for me, a remote controlled car, I loved that thing.
My Grandfather passed away in the early 90's at the age of 82 leaving the AP5 with my Grandmother. She drove it for a few more years until she was no longer able to drive it.
My Dad owned an AP6 Valiant which was his work, family car until is was defected in the late 90's. Upon this defect, he needed a new car. He didn't want a new car and wanted something he was familiar with, so, a deal was struck between Mum, Dad and Grandma and he bought the car off her. This was then, Mum and Dad's everyday car. In 2021, Dad passed away. Before he passed, he asked me to sell the car for him as mum no longer needed it so, the process began to find a buyer.
As usual there were the tyre kickers who offered low ball prices. There was a lot of interest from the Chrysler Club in Adelaide but before they could make any serious offers, a mate of mine, Jay, after sending him some pictures of it, said he wanted to buy it. He lives in Brisbane so, off on a plane he and flew to Adelaide. This is the start of the journey of the old AP5 from Adelaide to Brisbane. Jay lives about 15 min drive from me so I get to see the car often, even when driving down the road, we run into each other on occasion, strange to see the car behind me in the rear view mirror without either my parents or Grandparents behind the wheel. I decided to share this video to anyone who is interested. It was both sad and joyful to see the old girl on the road. I am grateful that it has been sold to someone who appreciates the car's history and cares for it as much as it's previous 2 owners.
Long live the AP5!
