We are at an exciting time in the design and construction profession! With increasing technology developments in AI/Machine learning, computational design and automation, we provide more and better technical information for projects than ever before. However, with that, we require a different skill set from engineers; one which the typical academic degree and subsequent PE exam does not currently provide. In this video, I provide a review of automation and its effect on the engineering profession, examples of current computational automation of engineering tasks, examples of AI/Machine Learning in engineering, and thoughts on where education and training for engineers should go from here.

About Me:
Hi, I'm Paul Kassabian. I'm a structural engineer and a Principal at SGH in Boston, MA. Being a structural engineer is my fulltime job and I’ve also I taught full courses to graduate students at MIT for nine years, Harvard's Graduate School of Design (GSD) for five years and at RISD (Fall 2023). These are videos based on my structural design projects and years of teaching structures to students.
