How to remove a mustard stain:

1.) Check the care label to determine if your garment is washable. If your garment is dry clean only, do not attempt at home remedies or proceed with caution.
2.) If the mustard stain is on a washable garment, remove any excess mustard with a fresh towel.
3.) Dab (do not rub) the mustard stain with a clean white towel to absorb as much of the stain as possible.
4.) If the mustard stain is on a washable garment, pre-treat the stain with a bit of vinegar or fresh lemon juice to counteract the turmeric.
5.) Do not rub. Allow to sit for about 30 minutes.
6.) Wash as normal or instructed by the care label.
7.) Check the stained garment before putting in the dryer. If the stain was not removed, repeat the above procedure. If the mustard stain did not come out, do not dry!
8.) If the mustard stain was not completely removed, hydrogen peroxide (3%) can be applied to help lift the yellow dyes within mustard away from the garment. Allow to sit for about 15 minutes and then wash. This should remove the last traces of the mustard stain.

Tip - When using hydrogen peroxide or any stain removing solvents / techniques you should always test the solvent in an unexposed area to ensure dye steadiness.

9.) Only dry once the mustard stain has been fully removed.
10.) Your mustard stain is removed!

Tip - Because of turmeric’s dyeing properties, mustard stains can be very difficult to remove on light colored garments. If the stain is still present bring this garment to your local dry cleaner for some extra help.
