Penang to Hatyai by train

Alternative way to travel to Hatyai by using train from Penang (Bukit Mertajam). It is economical and safe to travel by train. For less than RM40, you can have a round trip to hatyai and return. There were multiple komuter train trips from Butterworth to Padang Besar daily. However, there were only 2 trips from Padang Besar to Hatyai. Need to ensure that the train’s timing were match, otherwise you may need to wait for longer interval.

Note: Don't be scam by local taxi operators which charging you an exorbitant fare to bring you to the Padang Besar Immigration to continue your journey by road instead of rail. During festive season, the queue at the immigration were very long and time consuming. My advise is just wait at the train station for the train. The immigration clearance at the train station will be much faster than at the land border.
