MsiTuesday Update 7/2/2019

Jason and Rachael are back with another exciting edition of #MsiTuesday here at #CMZoo! We're spending some time with Khalid, CMZoo’s breeding bull and father of four, soon to be five, giraffe. You can find him in his north yard most often. But, as many of you have seen on our giraffe cam lately, he's been spending time in other places, too.

Since coming to the Zoo in 2010, we've been inviting him to venture into the side yard, but this weekend was the first time he actually went out. We think that’s because he’s developed a strong relationship with another giraffe in the herd, Bailey. She gave him more confidence, and he followed her to the side yard. This is an exciting step for Khalid!

As many of you know, Msitu is still pregnant. She appears to be about 15 months along, which is nearing the end of a normal gestation period. If the date you guessed has passed, you can update it as often as you'd like, but it needs to be submitted at least 48 hours before the calf is born. Head to cmzoo.org/guess to enter in the date you think Msitu will deliver. You could win a behind-the-scenes tour with our amazing giraffe herd!

As always, if you want to see Msitu in the birth stall, head to cmzoo.org/birthcam. She's usually in there from 4 p.m. to 9 a.m. each day, but the birth cam streams 24/7. Our plan is continue the stream while Msitu is in labor, as well as broadcast it live on Facebook so viewers can see the birth from a different angle. If staff start to notice anything going wrong or we start to see disturbing images, we will cut the live feed to protect our viewers.
