Idumban is a great devotee of Lord Muruga and a great disciple of sage Agastya as well according to Tamil mythology. Idumban is also seen as one of the guardians of Muruga's temples in Tamil Nadu. During Thai Poosam celebrations in the Tamil month of Thai, Tamil people observe a ritual practice of Kavadi Aattam to obtain blessings from Muruga.In the ritual practice, before entering into the shrine, people used to worship Idumban.

Palani or Palni as in British records, is a town and a taluk headquarters in Dindigul district of the western part of Tamil Nadu state in India.
