Hello friends welcome to our Nomadic Dilip channel. In this vlog I explored a great historical heritage castle 🏰 located in Venkatagiri town.

History:-

Venkatagiri Castle is one of the largest and oldest castles in Andhra Pradesh. This state in the Nellore region was ruled by Velugoti clansmen as semi-independent rulers and colonists for more than 350 years until the independence of India. The Peddarayas of Velugoti acted as vassals of the Gajapaths in the late 16th century. After that they came to Venkatagiri and established themselves as rulers. By 1750, Arkatu was a vassal of the Nawab and from 1802 to 1947, it was a colony under the British. The state was divided into ten talukas namely Venkatagiri, Saguthuru, Mallam, Poluru, Manubrolu, Pellur, Podile, Darshi, Kocherlakota and Marella.

The rulers of the Venkatagiri institution were Velugoti clans. The name of the ancestor of Velugoti family was Chevireddy. Another name for him is Bhethalanaidu. Their early surname was Balsamarri. Venkatagiri, a part of the Madras state, was founded in 1600 by Velugoti Rayudappa Nayani of the Velugoti clan . According to family records, Chevireddy, a zamindar, found a treasure worth 9 lakhs while plowing his field. With this money, he was able to pave the way for the king of Warangal, please him and get the power of Venkatagiri fort. His descendants came to be the landlords of Venkatagiri. 'Sanad' was obtained in 1802 during the reign of Lord Clive. The zamindars of their clan used the title 'Raja'.

Yachamanaidu, the ancestor of the Venkatagiri zamindars, fought in 1614 in favor of the Srirangarayas, who were the successors of the Tirumala Devarayas, in a struggle over the succession to the Vijayanagara empire after Tirumala Devarayas II. Although a king named Jaggarayu killed all the family of Srirangaraya in succession disputes, Rangaraya's son Ramadevaraya was placed on the throne.
