The Balestra mate is a checkmating pattern in chess, that arises with the Queen and Bishop. In this lesson, GM Hovhannes Gabuzyan shows some typical examples of this mating pattern.

In this pattern, the Bishop delivers a checkmate while the Queen is tasked to stop the opponent's King from escaping.
