Elite district of Kyiv - Obolon. How Kyiv residents live.

Описание к видео Elite district of Kyiv - Obolon. How Kyiv residents live.

If you've always been curious about which district in Kyiv is the best for living, in this video, you'll find out which one and why. You'd definitely want to live here.

The Obolon Embankment is a special place and rightfully considered one of the most beautiful in the capital. Thanks to its status and the fact that along its nearly 7 km (4.3 miles), you can find everything needed for relaxation and entertainment, it has become a popular landmark not only in the Obolon district but throughout Kyiv. The Obolon Embankment offers splendid views of the Dnipro River, beaches, temples, attractions, cafes, restaurants, sports and children's playgrounds, numerous sculptures, the 'Stone Garden', Natalka Park, and many other interesting places. There is simply no equivalent diversity in Kyiv. Therefore, the Obolon Embankment is truly unique in every part — from Northern Street to the Northern Bridge.

The extensive development of this area began in the mid-1990s. The first to emerge was the 3-B microdistrict located between Prirechnaya Street and Santiago de Chile Square. Luxury cottages were then built near the Institute of Hydrobiology and Archaeology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, as well as the pumping station 'Obolon-1'. In the early 2000s, the construction of the Oasis residential complex began, followed by the Sail residential complex, both becoming part of the 3-A microdistrict. During this period, the Golf Center was erected on the territory adjacent to the embankment Natalka.
Later, in the second half of the 2010s, the best park in Kyiv, Obolon Park, soon renamed Natalka Park, appeared nearby.

Construction of the modern Obolon Embankment also began in the second half of the 1990s. The first part to be improved extended from the public building at 13 Prirechnaya Street to the cottages. Here, for the first time, paving stones, decorative fencing, aesthetic lanterns, and stairs between the upper and lower pedestrian zones were introduced. To connect the first phase of the embankment to the then Heroiv Stalingrada Avenue, a wide alley called 'The Road to the Temple' was provided, leading from the avenue to the Intercession of the Mother of God Cathedral on Prirechnaya Street, 5-A. Unfortunately, the area around the cathedral was closed to pedestrian passage almost immediately after construction began.

The next stage of improvement was the construction of the widest lower part of the Obolon Embankment - its second phase, which stretched from the cottages to the Natalka area. Here, Kyiv residents gained the opportunity to walk in close proximity to the water and observe sculptural representations of the 12 zodiac signs, installed in 2006 opposite the cottages, next to which boat and yacht docks were also introduced.

Opposite the golf center, a little later, another series of sculptures in the form of girls was installed, named 'Alley of Muses'. In 2020, construction of the pedestrian 'wave bridge' to Obolon Island began from this location. Also, a small water stadium was arranged on this part of the embankment.

In the 2000s, the third phase of the embankment was constructed - from elite cottages to the Sail residential complex, next to which the first 'Stone Garden' in Kyiv appeared in 2011. The pedestrian zone was connected with the Northern Bridge by a mini-square opposite the Park Stone residential complex, landscaped in 2019.

The lower part of the embankment was fully completed only after the construction of Natalka Park in 2019. Pedestrians gained the opportunity to walk right along the water's edge for the first time. In the future, another part of the embankment is expected to appear on Obolon Island. All these developments have made the Obolon Embankment one of the most beloved recreational spots for Kyiv residents and visitors, who specifically come here to stroll, engage in sports, sunbathe on the beaches, visit entertainment establishments, witness the sunrise, or simply enjoy the views of the Dnipro River banks.
