Mauryan Period in Indian subcontinent represented an important transition in the art and architectural form from the usages of wood to the stone. Mauryans ruled between 322 and 185 BCE and during this period many developments took place in the art and architecture leading to the establishment of an altogether a unique culture in the subcontinent. Pillars, Stupas, caves are the most prominent survivals of Mauryan art.
