Super Mario Bros. 2 Music - Underworld (Extended)

Super Mario Bros. 2 is, hands down, one of the best games on the NES, in my opinion. Unfortunately, it doesn't quite get the recognition that it deserves, and is usually dismissed as the "black sheep" of the original Mario trilogy. Fact of the matter is, it's quite disappointing that a lot of people think like that, 'cause this is one of the most unique and fun games out there; it being the "black sheep" is why it's so great.

Instead of jumping on enemies to kill them, you have to throw vegetables/other enemies at them. This change alone makes for a peculiar and exciting way of going about confrontation. It's kind of cathartic to throw things, and this game delivers that feeling in spades. It's not very often you'll see "death by vegetables" in games, let alone anywhere else. ...Maybe this game was responsible for a generation of kids who refused to eat their vegetables? I don't know.

Point is, this game is tons of fun, and even discounting its peculiarity, this installment introduced a lot of staples of the Mario franchise, like Shy-Guys, Birdo, and many others. Mechanically, it might not be your cup of tea, but to deny the impact this game had on the lore is just foolish. Yes, I said Mario games have lore, moving on.

Another great thing about this game, of course, is the music. Simple 8-bit compositions are what Nintendo was the best at, back in the day, and this games soundtrack was no exception to that rule. My favorite track being this one; the theme that plays when you're in underground areas. Slightly ominous, yet still catchy as all get-out, it's a song that'll stay stuck in my head for years to come.

Well... That was quite the rant. I don't usually go on for this long, do I?

Anyways, enjoy!
