The Veer Dola Exercise is a replication of battles that were fought on similar mountains and slopes, during the 1999 Kargil war. The name ‘Veer Dola’ is a tribute to the HAWS instructor Lance Naik Dola Ram, who made the ultimate sacrifice by setting up ropes on steep cliffs and making way for the army on the impassable mountains.

Some of the highest battlefields like Siachen can be unforgiving even for the toughest soldiers; where low oxygen level and sub-zero temperatures make it one of the most hostile places to live in, let alone fight. At HAWS Gulmarg which is situated close to 9,000 feet above sea level, Indian Army men train to survive and fight in the world’s highest battleground at 20,000 feet.
