Prawns Koliwada Recipe | Spicy Crispy Prawns Fry | How to make Prawns Koliwada | प्रॉन्स कोळीवाडा | Prawns Koliwada Street Food

Prawns Koliwada - Made famous by the Kolis of Mumbai, this spicy and crispy preparation of Prawn, Shrimp Fish is now famous not only in Mumbai but all over India. Prawns are marinated in a spice blend and then slathered in a GLUTEN FREE batter and fried till crispy!

The deliciously crunchy dish of Prawn Koliwada works as a great starter and appetizer dish. It's also rumored to having gotten its name from the dish made by Punjabi immigrants having settled in Sion-Koliwada region of Mumbai. It’s a dish that’s now easily found in almost every coastal seafood restaurant in the city.

So here’s the recipe from my kitchen to yours.


Ingredients :

18 to 20 nos (300 gms) Prawns (weighed after its shelled & deveined)

Marination I :

1 tsp Ginger Garlic Paste
1 tsp Red Chilli Powder
½ tsp Salt (or as per taste)
1 tbsp Lemon Juice

Marination II :

2 tbsp Gram Flour (Besan)
1 tbsp Corn Flour
1 tsp Rice Flour
1 tbsp Kashmiri Red Chilli
½ tsp Turmeric Powder
½ tsp Cumin Powder (Jeera Powder)
½ tsp Garam Masala Powder or Kebab Masala Powder
½ tsp Ginger Garlic Paste
½ tsp Carom Seeds (ajwain)
½ tsp Salt (or as per taste)
4 to 5 drops of Red Food Colour
1 no. Egg (well beaten)
1 to 2 tbsp Water (to make a thick paste)


Other Ingredients :

Oil sufficient enough for frying
5 to 6 Green Chillies (for garnishing)
Chaat Masala to sprinkle on top

Note : tsp is teaspoon
tbsp is tablespoon
