Mama, You’ve Been On My Mind / Benjamin Tod Plays Bob Dylan

This song is one as close to me as my scars in life. It branded itself into my soul around the age of 14 and never healed. It was actually the first song I ever played Ashley on our first date, and still brings back an innocence to my spirit I can’t explain. It is by far the most important song of all time to me, and without it I wouldn’t be the artist I am.

Bob Dylan’s work pre 1965 is some of the most important songwriting in his massive history. I would consider it like an ancient prophetic text for this culture. His career has taken many strange turns and like myself you either loyally love him, or absolutely hate him. I’m in it to compete and so is Dylan 60 years after this song first released.

The greatest album of all time in my opinion and where this track lies is within is ‘The Bootleg Series Live 1964’ with Joan Baez. This track will make the hair stand up I’m the back your neck if listened to in solitude on a cold night. There’s even a part where Dylan and Baez forget the lyrics and tease each other laughing. It was unavailable for streaming almost all my life and just recently was included in the online catalog. Go give the entire album a listen and be prepared for lowfi sound, out of tune guitars and imperfection. I hate to even turn people onto it so I can keep it to myself, but it’s just too damn good.
