traws Eryri day 3

The final day of our Traws Eryri ride started after a dry and clear camp in the woods above Penmachno. We were even able to stay up and look at the night sky and enjoy a sip of whiskey. Happy days!!

As some of you might have noticed we deviated from the official route in a few places. We had 2 different GPX files and added on a few bits that looked interesting. This did come back to bite us in the ass though as we did about 20% more climbing and 15 miles more than the official route. I don’t regret it as we saw some interesting things but am not recommending anyone deviates from the route as we did. I have another friend who is keen to do the ride so might end up doing the full official route in the spring with him. I’m sure it will be easier than the route we did….😂😂😂

Our final day was much drier and the sun even came out after breakfast. We had a few miles to make up so had to push on and not spend as much time looking at the views as we would normally. I’d booked a shuttle bus to return us to Machynlleth and we were tight for time to meet up with him. But it’s all explained in the video.

Overall it was a good trip even though we had some very bad weather at the start. I think the last day was my favourite as we started to move through some more open landscapes which is my preference over lots of forest trails. It’s a fairly challenging route though, although possibly a bit easier if you stick to the official route!! 😂😊

We used Steve’s Taxi for our lift back to the start of the route. He was patient with us as we had to change times on him and I’d recommend him for the drive back. He’s a good guy. His email is [email protected]. He mentioned that he already had some bookings for next year.
