Part 9 Jump to end of carrier rebuild, then find Carrier's preload

This short video would be the end of a longer rebuilding video of the carrier on my 79 Spitfire differential. Time is short for some waiting for what did I do, when setting up the Sun and Planet wheel thrust washers (what a nightmare that was). I could see the Planet Wheel's Pin was off center to the case, and my caliper went to work mapping the inside of the case. My final diagram showed me the Sun Wheels were the reason the Planet Wheel Pin was installed 1/16" off center, because the Sun Wheels measured different widths. Why didn't the machinist find matching wheels? I adjusted the Sun Wheel Thrust Washers to keep the Sun Wheels the same distance to the Pin so the planets would contact the sun wheels without being pushed off center, wearing the pin and wheels. Then I found the Planet Thrust Washer contact points were also different, the case was thicker on one side too. Tolerances were confusing there, and installing what the float said I needed in thickness caused the wheels to bind up. Adjust this, move that, change washers around. Maybe what I did was overkill, but the case and parts were far from what I expected to find. The carrier bearing shims did not wear out so I did have something to start with there, just a little adjusting here and there for my Crown Wheel to Pinion back lash, and I was finished. So 'Part 8 the sun and planet wheels'. I'm still sorting those segments out for a to the point video, but not in the near future. I have to replace an outer drive shaft so I can go to the 2015 Ridgway Beer Fest this month, they are having a Euro Car Invasion car show this year. (bummer, show cancelled due to snow forcasted) Important Update 24 June 2020: The differential Sun gear's fiber thrust washers can fail. Copper replacement is the general agreement with some forum members about this. I am pulling my differential after about 28,000 miles to see why the gear oil has BB size fiber pieces in it.
